First used around 450 years ago, the technique of using paint and starch to create unique and highly variable designs on paper remains a simple and versatile method to decorate paper. They are simple to produce – rather like finger painting and having creative free play time. Paste papers can be used for greeting cards, wrapping paper, book covers, decorating boxes, collages, kites – anywhere you want bright, vibrant designs.Wet pages can be taken home carefully or picked up from Community Ed the following week.

In this class participants will layer and needle felt wool roving using paper napkins as your design guide. You will create a fleece 3/D art picture with texture and dimension. Choose flowers, birds or an abstract design. There will be an abundant selection to choose from. Pre-cut mats for framing your art will be available. All materials provided.

In this class we will play with our paints and discover ways to make the paint dance aswe explore some black and white wonders – think zerbra, penguin and puffins. The useof watercolor gives us a nice playground with water to move the paint in subtle and funways, creating unique blends of paints with unexpected mixes and blends. The rhythmof this class is 3 half day workshops so that you can spend some continuous time withyour paints and really dig into watercolor.

Explore the art of glass on glass mosaic in this hands on workshop. Participants will create two trees using a variety of colorful stained glass.Learn essential techniques including glass cutting, proper adhesive use and grouting. Your trees will be approximately 5" & 7" and ready to hang.

Beginning with a manuscript, learn to sketch characters and settings, brainstorm how to overcome challenges, interpret feedback from other artists, and create an illustrated work that sees an original story transformed. Course 1: The Short Course in Sketching covers the basics of contour drawing, basic forms, and value shading. Discover how easy it is to sketch using observational skills and basic techniques. Bring a sketchbook, at least 8.5"x11", a No. 2 (HB) pencil, a 6B drawing pencil, pencil sharpener and eraser. No art experience necessary. Instructor has 40 years of teaching experience. Course 2: Expanding Your Sketching Skills includes practice with contour drawing, basic forms, and value shading to understand the use of lights and darks to create contrast. Gesture drawing, understanding angles, and learning how to draw faces will be taught. Bring a sketchbook, at least 8.5"x11", a No. 2 (HB) pencil, a 6B drawing pencil, pencil sharpener and eraser.

In this class we will make a hard-cover journal with decorative stitching and pretty tapes that is a gift to yourself or someone else. The tape binding creates a sturdy book for journalling, artwork or a diary. Making a book by hand allows creative expression in many different ways and is deeply satisfying. We will cover the covers with decorative papers, fold inside signatures and stitch it all together over the 2 sessions. Supplies: Scissors and/or sharp exacto knife, glue stick, pencil, ruler, bone or Teflon folder or butter knife, cutting mat if you have one. If you have a particular paper and ribbon that you want to use for the covers, bring that along. All the other supplies will be provided.
