We will use lots of different equipment such as Bee Bots, Panda Bots, Ozobots, Cubelets and computers to help us understand some big ideas and get us programming.

Whether you're a complete beginner or a seasoned chess player, our club offers a supportive and engaging environment for all skill levels. The kids will participate in DND activities and other role playing games that are available. It's a fun time for kids to get together to learn and develop friendships.

Do you want to play guitar but don't know how? Level 1 Guitar Ensemble is for you. This activity is open to any student grades 5-8 and meets at Horizon Middle School. Students will learn the fundamentals of playing guitar, such chords, strumming, and basic technique, while learning fun songs in a group setting. Guitar Ensemble performs two concerts per year along with Level 2. Since we only meet once a week, students will be expected to practice regularly at home to meet weekly progress micro-goals. If you plan on purchasing a guitar, please contact the instructor about finding a guitar that is the right size for your student. Students can use school-owned guitars during practice, but it is recommended that they have one at home as well. Rock on!

Level 2 Guitar Ensemble is an opportunity for students with guitar experience to grow in their skills and have fun making music. Students who have previously been in Guitar Ensemble or who have had at least 1 year of private lessons are eligible to join Level 2. In a group setting, we will learn new chords, strumming techniques, fingerstyle, notes, and play in 2- or 3-part harmony. This is a student-focused group, so students will have some input on what songs are played. Since we will only meet once per week, students will be expected to practice regularly at home to meet weekly progress micro-goals. Students can use school-owned guitars during practice, but it is recommended that they have one at home as well. We will perform two concerts. Jiu-Jitsu is a martial art that focuses on grappling and ground techniques. Jiu-Jitsu teaches discipline, respect, cooperation, and confidence. Students work on improving balance, motor control, and the ability to control larger opponents while having fun and training in a safe environment.

Help your child develop confidence, discipline, respect, and courage while learning self- defense skills and having fun. Your child will learn basic martial art skills that will help develop their motor skills while also making new friends.

The Fall Dance Team is open to girls in grades 7-12. The goal of the Fall Dance Team is to grow as a dancer by building a foundation through technique, endurance and performance experience. Dancers will improve flexibility, strength and knowledge of choreography while learning 2-4 routines. We will practice Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. We will perform at halftime during home football games and the Homecoming Parade. The purpose of the Fall team is to prepare girls for the competitive team; however, dancers do not need to be on the Highlights competitive winter team to join the fall team. Dancers should wear athletic pants (leggings/yoga pants), athletic top, tennis shoes and dance shoes for practice. For performances, dancers will wear the team shirt (included in class cost), black leggings, black tights and black dance shoes.
